NGO presents tools and accessories to James Town youth

Accra, April 27, GNA - The International Needs Ghana (ING) an NGO on Friday presented tools and accessories worth GH₵16,400 to 41 youth to be trained in various vocational fields to prevent them from indulging in sexual exploits.

The tools are to help them train in vocation such as interior decoration, hairdressing and dressmaking with the idea of eliminating and protecting them from commercial sexual exploitation in James town, Korle Worko, Chorkor, Korle Gonno, Madina and Timber Market in Accra Metropolis.

Mrs Joyce Odame, Child Rights Programme Manager, ING said the organisation targeted 500 youth between 12-18 years who are falling victims.

She explained that the presentation was to assist the youth in vocational training and ensure their protection from abuse.

Mrs Odame said before they could be trained they were taken through series of counselling to enlighten them in their field of training.

Mr Theophilus Tetteh Chaie, National Democratic Congress Member of Parliament for Ablekuma Central said to help in developing the country, there was the need to raise children with good moral standards.

He said with the help of the organisation the communities would eliminate deviant behaviours among the youth.

He commended the organisation for the interest of involving the youth in vocational training and easing poverty in the country and urged parents to make efforts to motivate their children to benefit from the programme.

Mrs Francisca Ntiamoah, a Representative from Department of Social Welfare encouraged the children to be respectful, hardworking and punctual at the training centres.

ING is an organisation working to promote human and community development for the relief of socio –economic problems and cultural injustice.
