Tullow gives to KNUST College of Engineering

Tullow Oil Ghana, lead operators of Ghana's oil jubilee fields, has donated a quantity of books on petroleum engineering to the College of Engineering of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in Kumasi.

The donation is to help stock the college's library with the requisite books to enable students undertake research in their area of study in oil exploration.

The Sub-Surface Engineering Manager of Tullow Oil, Nana Appiah Kyei, who presented the books to the College in Kumasi on Wednesday at a short ceremony, said it was a token by the oil company to support KNUST in preparing students adequately for the oil industry towards national development.

The Provost of the College of Engineering, Prof. Samuel Innocent Kofi Ampadu, received the books on behalf of the KNUST, in the presence of the Vice Chancellor, Prof. William Ellis Otoo.

He said the college, which focuses on national development, as it aspires to become an integrated centre of excellence in the area of petroleum engineering in Africa.

Prof. Ampadu noted that the college had passed the landmark of being the best in country and West Africa, and was heading towards becoming the best on the African continent.

According to him, the role of books and library was essential in realising dreams, and noted that the gesture by Tullow Oil Ghana would help the cCollege maintain a library of its own that   focuses on engineering.

The Provost said the college had a 100-seater library stocked with over 8,000 volumes of books, and assured the oil company that the books would be put to good use for the benefit of the both lecturers and students.
