Mr Ken Ashigbey, Managing Director of GCG interacting with a vendor in Tema The Graphic Communications Group Limited (GCGL) has started an advocacy project to encourage reading in line with its mandate of contributing to the development of the human resource base of the nation.

Other areas of interest include peaceful electoral process, accuracy of facts in dissemination of information dissemination and equitable spread of its reading materials by deploying more vendors into the system.

He also had interactions with the management of Ghana Grid Company, Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA), Tema Development Corporation,(TDC), PZ Cussons Ghana Limited and vendors at stands of GCGL among others.

He discussed sponsorship packages and ways to promote the reading and patronage of the Graphic Business and Junior Graphic ,two of the group's five publications.

Mr Ashigbey held fruitful discussions with the chief executives of GRIDCO, Mr Charles Darku , the Ag Director General of GPHA, Mr Richard Anamoo, the Managing Director of Cussons PZ Ghana Limited, Mr Jim Judson and the Director of Finance of TDC, Mr Abdul Mumin Al Yakubu who represented the Managing Director.

Mr Ashigbey who was accompanied by the Tema Zonal Manager of GCGL, Mrs Eugenia Mcready and Ms Christiana Adjei, Circulation Officer, first paid a courtesy call on the Tema Mantse Nii Adjei Kraku and commended him for ensuring peace in the Metropolis.

He observed that the election year has brought to the fore, issues that had been over dramatized and appealed to all parties to tone down on their utterances and rather preach peace.

Mr Ashigbey was optimistic that with tolerance, Ghanaians will cross 2012 as one united people.

Hestressed that it was important for the GCGL to build good relations with the local authorities, particularly so, as newspaper vendors and agents operate directly in the communities.

He said with over 60 years experience as a news paper publishing company, GCGL was committed to building peace and development, using its various publications..

Mr Ashigbey noted with concern that reading was on the decline in the country and said it was the intention of the GCGL to whip up people's interest in reading as an aspect of development .

He announced that the company is also redesigning its website to provide online new and services.

Mr Ashigbey appealed to the TMA, GPHA, TDC and GRIDCO, to partner the GCGL to provide deprived public schools with copies of the Junior Graphic, to help them upgrade their knowledge.

He said many children are interested in the publication but cannot afford the subsidized price of 70 pesewas per copy.

He described the paper as a teaching material because of its content which is based on the school curriculum.

Mr Ashigbey said the GCGL had kept faith with the people and was hopeful that the companies will extend their corporate social responsibility to deprived areas.

Later at a meeting with vendors, he appealed to them to shun the sale of pornographic materials which contribute to immorality in society.

The vendors showed appreciation for the Managing Director's visit and pledged to collaborate more with GCGL towards its further growth.
