Cop Grabbed For Robbery
A policeman, Lance Corporal Charles Grandson, who was allegedly involved in a robbery incident with others at Achimota in Accra, has been arrested.
L/Cpl Grandson, with five other policemen and three others, allegedly robbed two brothers of 10 kegs of mercury valued at GH¢100,000 at Christian Village, Achimota.
L/Cpl Grandson, 32, stationed at the Teshie District Police Station, together with Oduro Danso, 34, and Owuraku Amofa Appiah, 32, was arrested by personnel of the Tesano Police at their hideouts around 1:00am on Saturday morning.
Five other policemen yet to be identified, together with another suspect, Frank Odei, are being sought by the police.
The 10 kegs of mercury had since been retrieved from the suspects.
Briefing the media, the Tesano Divisional Police Commander, ACP Emmanuel Bosso said on Friday April 20, 2012, Frank Odei called the victims, Kwesi Larbi and his brother, and expressed interest in buying the mercury.
Around 4:00pm that fateful day, Frank Odei called the victims and said they should meet at Christian Village near the Pure Fire Miracle Church for the transaction.
When the victims got to the location in a taxi cab together with the items, suspects Frank Odei, Oduro Danso and Owuraku Amofa Appiah were already waiting for them to inspect the items.
While they were bargaining on the price of the items, five plain-clothed policemen and one uniformed officer in a taxi cab and on a motorbike respectively appeared at the scene to arrest them for having in their possessing a bomb.
The policemen, including Grandson, brutally assaulted the victims along with their taxi driver and told them they were taking them to Mile 7 Police Station for having a bomb in their possession.
On the way, the two brothers were dropped one after the other, while the taxi driver was released at Achimota overhead area by the policemen.
The taxi and the items were taken away by the suspects.
The taxi cab was later abandoned at the Achimota area but without the items.
Unknown to L/Cpl Grandson, the taxi driver knew him very well from the Teshie Police Station.
A report was lodged with the Tesano Divisional Police, and with the help of the taxi driver, Charles Grandson was arrested at his hideout at Teshie around 1:00am on Saturday.
He led the police to arrest the two civilian suspects, but refused to mention the names of the five other police personnel.
