CPP Congress Delay Is Worrying - Anarfi

The Asante-Akim North Constituency branch Chairman of the Convention People’s Party, believes the delay for the party to go to congress in order to elect its flag-bearer for the 2012 elections is part of a grand scheme to ultimately merge the party with either the National Democratic Congress or the New Patriotic Party.

Mr Kwabena Anarfi, made a recourse to the CPP constitution which says, the party should go to congress to elect its flag-bearer two years before the general elections. He said “it is eight months for the general elections to take off but as of now nothing is happening.”

He therefore called on the leadership to immediately come out with the timetable for the congress to avoid agitations from members.

Speaking to graphic.com.gh at Konongo, Mr Anarfi said from the look of things the CPP hierarchy had delayed the party’s congress to elect its flag-bearer for no apparent reason.

Two persons had filed their nominations to contest. They are Mr Abu Sakara, an economist, and Mr Bright Akwetey, a veteran lawyer.

Mr Anarfi cautioned the CPP hierarchy not to mortgage the party to either the National Democratic Congress or the New Patriotic Party.

In his view, the CPP should not be subservient to any of the two political parties because if for nothing at all “ it was rather the CPP that had an enviable track record to lead the country.”

According to him, the NDC and the NPP had plunged the country into disarray and therefore should not be entertained by Ghanaians.
