Zoomlion CEO Is Best Entrepreneur

Joseph Siaw Agyepong, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Zoomlion Ghana limited, was named Best Entrepreneur for the year 2011 at the 2 nd Ghana Entrepreneur Awards dinner held over the weekend.

Mr Agyapong, popularly know as Jospong, is a seasoned Ghanaian entrepreneur and industrialist who has received many awards.

Last year, he was honoured by the Entrepreneurial Foundation of Ghana, a body that rewards hardworking entrepreneurs in the country.

In all, 30 entrepreneurs both Ghanaian and non-Ghanaians were honoured for their contribution towards the development of the country.

The lifetime achievement award went to Mr Ramchand Udharam Mohinani, Chairman of the Mohinani Group of Companies while the Special Entrepreneur award went to Hagwam Khubchandani, Chairman of Melcom Group of Companies.

Salem Kalmoni, CEO of Japan Motors Group of Companies, received the serial Entrepreneur award while James Ebo White, CEO of Roverman Production was adjudged the most promising entrepreneur.

Dr Kwaku Frimpong, CEO of Champion Divine Clinic was named the outstanding Entrepreneur while Dr Theresa Oppong Beeko, CEO of Manet group of Companies won the best woman entrepreneur.

Best entrepreneur award for health services, herbal services and pharmaceuticals went to Magnus Nunoo of Magvlyn Indiustries Limited, Felix Anya Executive Chairman of Holy Trinity Spa and medical Centre and John Daniel Otoo, CEO of Capital O2 health Company Limited.

Best entrepreneur manufacturing industry Award was presented to William Ato Essien, CEO of First Capital Plus while Edward Boateng Executive Chairman of Global media Broadcasting Company Limited took home the award for the media Communication And Entertainment category, among others.

Vice President John Dramani Mahama, in a keynote address delivered on his behalf, commended the entrepreneurs for the significant role they play in the development of the nation and challenged them to go a step further by mentoring other budding ones.

'The mentoring will make their start-up journey less lonely and failure -proof. And we will then be leading a movement to catalyze long-term economic growth of this country.'

He assured them of government's support in promoting entrepreneurship, especially among the youth, adding, 'The youth finish school these days with set minds to work only in so-called big companies.'

After receiving the over all best award, Mr Agyepong noted that there are enough resources in Ghana to fuel the development that the nation desires but it would take the hard work and commitment of entrepreneurs who make enormous contribution to the economy to realize that dream.

'It is one thing to be an entrepreneur and another thing to be a successful entrepreneur. We must be focused, committed and then work hard,' said an elated Mr Agyepong, who was flanked by other awardees of the night.

Sam Ato Gaise, Founder and CEO of Entrepreneur Foundation of Ghana, explained that the awards was to enhance the awareness of the importance of entrepreneurship among the public and in turn stimulate growth of local brands and enterprises to create more jobs.
