THE ASHANTI Regional Chief Imam, Imam Abdul Mumin Haroun has taken a swipe at a fraction of Muslims across the globe who undertake suicide bombings to end their lives and that of innocent people.

He described the development as un-Islamic, stressing that Islam, as a religion, abhorred violent people who killed innocent people for no apparent reason.

The Ashanti Regional Chief Imam stated that suicide bombings had not been prescribed by the Holy Koran therefore any Muslim that would practice the demonic act would be severely dealt with by Allah on the last day.

Imam Mumin Haroun was addressing a large gathering of Christians during a colourful church service at the Adum Presbyterian Church in Kumasi during the 90 th anniversary celebration of the Asante Presbytery.

He said those Islamic youth who usually embarked on suicide bombings took that sinful path to exit the world due to ignorance 'some wicked people told them lies that if they kill, they would go to Heaven, hence ending their lives via bombings.'

According Imam Mumin Haroun, Islam was one of the best religions that any person could associate with, noting that Islam stood for peace, tolerance, kindness and all the positive things that one could think of.

The Chief Imam wondered why those who pushed innocent Muslim youth to undertake suicide bombings did not do it themselves or admonish their own children and wives to practice it.

According to him, those behind suicide bombings were doing it to achieve their personal agenda therefore the public should not see every Muslim as a suicide bomber.

He pointed out that Prophet Mohammed who brought about the Islamic religion always championed an environment that was accommodative and never sanctioned for Muslims to practice suicide bombings.

He slammed the militant Islamic group in Nigeria by the name 'Boko Haram', insisting that their activities had not been sanctioned by Allah therefore they should cease shedding innocent blood.

Imam Mumin Haroun expressed delight about the peaceful coexistence that existed between Muslims and Christians in Ghana, noting that 'we are one people therefore there is no need for us to attack ourselves.'

He promised that he and other leading Muslims in the region would do everything possible to sustain the peace and unity that existed between Muslims and Christians.

The Chief Imam added that Allah created the earth for mankind to develop it and not to destroy it so anyone who would engage in an act that would destroy the world would be dealt with by Allah at the appropriate time.

There was a standing ovation for the Ashanti Regional Chief Imam and his entourage after his insightful and commendable delivery which was based on peaceful co-existence among mankind, irrespective of their religious backgrounds.
