Goalkeeper Sammy Adjei
Hearts of Oak goalkeeper Sammy Adjei insists he remains the number one choice of the club. The 31-year-old replaced in-form Philemon McCarthy in post after he picked an injury during their Premier League game against arch-rivals Asante Kotoko on Sunday.
But he failed to keep out Michael Akuffo's pile driver on the stroke of full time to hand the capital-based side their 5th defeat of the campaign in a 2-1 loss.
The former Black Stars gloves man has been dislodged from his position by the former Feyernord goalkeeper but after riding in the game, the ex-Moaden Ashdod FC shot-stopper insists he's the number one choice for the club.
'I am still the number goalkeeper for the club. I am just trying to help McCarthy to build his confidence and that's why he's been keeping the post,' Adjei said
'There is a lot for me to prove to our fans but I think the injury I sustained derail me a bit. But I am back and ready to take over my position,'
McCarthy has been ruled out of action for three weeks after fracturing his finger during the Premier League clash on Sunday.
Meanwhile, Hearts of Oak are on hopeful goalkeeper Philemon McCarthy will return to action in three weeks. The agile gloves man had to be substituted in the second half of Sunday's Ghana Premier League derby against Asante Kotoko at the Baba Yara Stadium due to a suspected broken finger.
Further checks revealed the 28-year-old suffered bruises and that has allayed fears of a lengthy lay-off. 'We are lucky it wasn't a compound fracture but a bruise and that has left him with a sore,' Hearts goalkeepers' trainer Abubakari Damba told MTNFootball.com
'I'm not expecting him this week but next week or so he will be fine. I can help him recover because I broke my finger so many times with the national team.' McCarthy has managed to revive his career in the second round of the league with some eye-catching displays.
