The King of Ahanta, Otumfuo Badu Bonsoe VI, has exercised his traditional powers and destooled one of his sub-chiefs, Nana Amua Gyebu, for disrespect.

According to the King, the Apowa Chief had shown gross disrespect to his authority, and deserved to be destooled.

He further stated that the manner in which the chief was selling lands indiscriminately without thinking about the welfare of his subjects, also called for his destoolment.

A letter confirming the Apowa Chief's destoolment, and signed by the King, has been forwarded to the Ahanta West District Assembly.

The King has also appointed the Chief of Adjuah to take oversight responsibility over Apowa until a new chief is installed.

Though the destooled chief, Nana Amuah Gyebu, has disclaimed the destoolment charges, the youth of Apowa and the entire community have welcomed the destoolment.

In a live radio broadcast carried from the place, the youth recounted how the chief have allegedly been selling lands without recourse to the owners of the said lands.

One person, who gave his name as Bedemah, recounted live on radio how the chief arrested and placed him in police cells for days, of failing to comply with the his (chief) decision to sell his land.
