“Jerry Rawlings' and Nana Konadu's once feared and revered empire is fast crumbling like pack of cards and yet still they seemed oblivious of the growing darkness around them”.

This was how a former loyalist (who doesn't want to named ) of former first couple, Jerry John Rawlings and Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings summed-up the happenings in the political corridors of the two former most powerful people in the country.

Just ten months a ago, July 2011 to be precise, this former associate of the Rawlingses was amongst the vociferous defenders of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Founder's wife, who also doubles as president of the 31st December Women's Movement in her bid to unseat and deny sitting President, John Mills the opportunity of staking a second claim to lead the nation on the ticket of the NDC in the upcoming Presidential elections.

This ex-loyalist is among a coterie of former loyalists of the incorrigible Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings, who have since the beginning of this year kept on deserting her and her pseudo political organization, known by its acronym, FONKAR, (Friends of Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings).

So far, this paper's investigation has revealed that almost all key figures instrumental in the Konadu campaign, prior to the Sunyani Congress of the NDC to elect a flag bearer for the 2012 presidential polls have abandoned the 'goddess of Ridge' and have pitched camp with the mainstream NDC campaign.

Leading the pack of deserters is the former National Coordinator of the Konadu for President Campaign and former Member of Parliament of Bunkrugu-Yunyoo, Namburi Berrick.

Earlier, the first person to have jump ship is Communications Consultant and former face of FONKAR, Dela Coffie who on the 16th of October last year responded to his critics this way: “The claim that I'm working for the government and as such, it is an act of treachery is also quite bizarre. Since when did FONKAR become a political alternative to the NDC as a political party? Is FONKAR at war with the NDC”?

Other prominent members and non-members but, very influential who have dumped Nana Konadu in the cold include; Sidi Abubakari, Abu Saddick and Brogya Genfi.

The rest are Founder/President of FONKAR Ransford Vanni-Amoah, Amanda Oppong, FONKAR founding member in Ashanti, Emmanuel Kankam, Ashanti regional coordinator of FONKAR and most of the other regional coordinators across the country.

It will be recalled that on the 12th of February this year the umbrella body of Friends of Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings (FONKAR) at its extraordinary emergency meeting held at Biriwa, Down Town in the Central Region, chaired by its Founder/President, Ransford Chatman Vanni-Amoah unanimously resolved to dissolve the group in what it said was “in the greater interest of the party” (NDC).

The delegates considered and agreed that this will provide a superior strength, cohesion and commitment of all party members towards 2012 elections victory for the NDC party.

Subsequent to the Biriwa Down Town resolution, FONKAR branches from the regions led by Northern, Ashanti and followed by the rest of the regions have since announced their fold-up.
