NAIROBI, Kenya, April 16, 2012/African Press Organization (APO)/ -- The EAC Secretary General Amb. Dr. Richard Sezibera is scheduled to launch the Chief Executive Officers' (CEOs) Forum on Monday 16 April 2012 at the Nairobi Serena Hotel in Kenya.

Recognizing the critical role of the business community in moving forward the objectives of the EAC integration process, Amb. Sezibera, on 1 February 2012, announced the establishment of the Secretary General's Regional CEO Forum.

The regional CEO Forum (SG CEO Forum) is a unique platform that will bring together CEOs of regional businesses with the EAC Secretary General for regular dialogue on how to improve business and trade environment to increase competitiveness and productivity and boost economic growth in the region.

Comprising five national forums and one regional forum annually, the SG CEO Forum will be hosted in partnership with East African Business Council (EABC) and TradeMark East Africa (TMEA), based on the three organizations' shared objectives of fostering the interests of the business community in the integration process.

The Monday event kick starts the activities of the SG CEO Forum and it will be the first meeting at the national level.

Commenting ahead of the launch, Amb. Sezibera says the private sector contributes at least 80% to the regional economy in terms of wealth creation, poverty reduction and production of goods and services and hence the need to engage the sector in such dialogues.

“The engagement of the private sector in the EAC affairs has been both informal and formal and my objective is to leverage this engagement,” asserts Amb. Sezibera.

Amb. Sezibera flanked by officials from EABC, Kenya Private Sector Alliance and TMEA will address a press conference immediately after the Forum launch at 10am
