Busing People To Register: NPP busted in Techiman

13.04.2012 LISTEN
By Dailypost News

For the umpteenth time, the NPP and its leading members have proven that they are not different from the proverbial bird, kokonene which goes up stream to pollute a river and then come down-stream to complain that someone has polluted the river.

In essence, anytime the NPP is accusing its opponents of any act of misconduct, including that which borders on criminality, one can be sure that it the very act they are committing.

Their strategy has been simply—while committing an offence, they accuse their opponents of committing the very offence they are committing to put them (opponents) on the defensive.

And so it came to pass that while NPP leading members are shouting from roof-tops that the NDC is busing people from elsewhere into some constituencies to register in the on-going biometric registration exercise, they are really the ones who are into this invidious act.

Last week, the cat was let out of the bag in the Techiman municipality when bus loads of people from Jamasi in the Ashanti Region and the Sunyani Polytechnic were ferried into the town by the NPP to register so they could vote for the party's Presidential candidate, Akufo-Addo and its parliamentary candidate for the Techiman North constituency, Hon. Ameyaw Ekumfi.

However, this was not to be as vigilant citizens of the town, especially the NDC folks, confronted these foreigners. The foreigners, realizing they were as guilty as sin, all took to their heels but as fate will have it, one of them was apprehended. He quickly confessed that they were bused into Techiman from Kumasi by Hon. Ameyaw Ekumfi after they were each given GH¢500 with a promise of a job if he retains his seat. The young man is currently in police cells at the Wenchi Police station where he was taken to.

Readers will recall that Prof. Ameyaw Ekumfi was named by a machoman currently doing time in jail as the one who recruited him and others during the 2008 elections to intimidate and beat up NDC supporters in the Techiman municipality in a bid to reduce the NDC's vote in that year's elections.

Kwadwo Fosu of Kumasi was sentenced to a three-year jail term on Monday, September 11, 2011 by the Techiman Circuit Court for acts of violence after he and other machomen all said to be part of the Bamba boys beat up NDC supporters in Techiman, nearly killing one.

In another development, one Kwesi Bedie, an NPP activist has been arrested at Tuobodom in the Techiman municipality after he brought out a single-barrel rifle and openly threatened to shoot anybody who tries to stop people bussed into the town by the NPP to register in the on-going biometric registration exercise.
