Don't let politicians use you - youth told

Tatale, (NR) April 12, GNA - The Chereponi District Chief Executive, Alhaji Mohammed Seidu Issah Abah, has advised the youth to resist attempts to be manipulated by politicians.

They should always ponder to discern and refuse to go along with those who intend to incite them to cause confusion.

He urged them to work tirelessly towards ensuring peace for the benefit of posterity, advising that as they enter into the electioneering period they should eschew utterances that have the potency of triggering conflicts and misunderstanding.

Alhaji Issah Abah said this at the annual congress of the Basare Youth Association at Tatale in the Zabzugu/Tatale District of the Northern Region.

He reminded them that the 1992 Constitution guarantees freedom of association, therefore, there should be no point for followers of different political parties to see themselves as enemies.

Alhaji Issah Abah stated that they were all witnesses to what elections had done to African countries such as the Democratic Republic of Congo, Zimbabwe, Kenya, Guinea and recently lvory Coast.

He reiterated that the NDC Government was committed to growing Ghana's democracy and there would surely be free and fair elections in the presidential and parliamentary elections in December.

He asked the youth to embrace education and sensitize their parents to send their children to school, especially the young girls who easily fall prey to child trafficking.

“I am reliably informed that child trafficking is rampant in the Bassare and Konkomba communities, this is inhumane and seriously violates the rights of the child,” he said.

On their new district, Tatale/ Sangule, he advised them to focus on ensuring the right environment for maturing the new local economy for sustainable accelerated growth.

He appealed to the chiefs and people, particularly the youth, to support efforts of the district administration to galvanize local resources through revenue mobilization to support development.

The Paramount Chief of Tatale Traditional Area, Obore Gariba Yankosor, reminded the people in the area to pursue peace at all levels to ensure a harmonious living.

He called on all the traditional authorities, opinion leaders, religious leaders, women's groups and the security agents to help stamp out child trafficking, which he said, was very rampant in the area.

Some parents even withdraw their children for child trafficking to Nigeria, he said.

On the iron- ore at Shani, the paramount chief appealed to his fellow chiefs and people in the area to unite to make peace and allow the exploitation of the iron-ore at Shani in the Zabzugu/Tatale District start and stop struggling over land ownership.

Obore Gariba said they should make the asset as a blessing and not a curse.
