The prime suspect in the murder of the rival Oblogo Chief, Nii Kwaku Bibini II, has been arrested.

The suspect, Ibrahim Laryea, 36, was arrested at his hideout by the Weija Police following a tip off.

He was conveyed to the CID Headquarters where he was handed over to the Homicide Unit of the CID for further investigations.

Laryea’s arrest brings to seven the number of suspects who have so far been arrested in connection with the murder.

Deputy Accra Regional Police Commander, DCOP Christian Tetteh Yohonu, told graphic.com.gh in Accra that the CID Headquarters had taken over the case and already launched a search for all the assailants.

He said an eyewitness account had it that during the attack on the late chief, a man named Tawiah, who was holding a gun, was ordered by his fellow assailants to shoot the chief but Tawiah could not.

Later, another man, Ibrahim, was heard boasting that when he realised that Tawiah was reluctant to fire the gun, he quickly took it from Tawiah and shot the chief, who was then trying to escape from them.

DCOP Yohonu said after killing the chief, the assailants used machetes to dismember his body.

He said investigations so far conducted by the police indicated that three out of the six suspects who were initially arrested had been hired by the late chief to help in the rebuilding of his palace which was completely burnt down last year.

He said the three suspects were not part of those who had perpetrated the heinous crime and, therefore, were released after their statements had been taken.

DCOP Yohonu said the police would do everything to arrest the culprits who had gone into hiding and make them face the full rigours of the law.
