NDC Zongo Caucus cries for voting rights at national level

Koforidua (E/R), April 8, GNA – Alhaji Baba Karami, Eastern Regional Co-ordinator of the Zongo Caucus of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) has expressed dissatisfaction about the neglect of the caucus at the party's national level.

He said the party had not given the caucus voting rights during national congresses while members were not consulted in decision making.

“The NDC Zongo caucus has never fail the party, so why are we not included in decision making,” he asked.

Alhaji Karami was addressing members of the National Executive of the caucus in Koforidua when during a tour the Eastern Region to sensitise the zongo communities to patronise the biometric voter registration exercise.

He said the caucus in the coming December election would increase its vote for the NDC nationwide and expressed the hope that the party would consider the role members play in winning the general election.

Alhaji Karami said the Nasara Club, a wing of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the zongo's enjoy voting right at the party's national congresses.

“The Nasara Club of the NPP cannot play the role the NDC Zongo caucus is playing, why can we also be given the chance to vote at the national level?”

He said the NDC has done a lot for the zongo communities by lifting up the standards of living of the people.

Alhaji Yussif Captain, National Coordinator of the caucus said the NDC would continue to win votes in the zongo communities because the party respects the core values of the people living in these areas.

He called on the people in the zongo's to cooperate with the officials of the biometric registration exercise for the country to get a credible National Voters' Register for the citizenry to exercise their franchise in the December general election.

Alhaji Mohammed Ashika, Protocol Officer of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) says Government is meeting with partners and stakeholders to implement the onetime payment of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).

He said the pilot capitation that was implemented by the NHIA in the Ashanti Region should be embraced by stakeholders to achieve a common goal and progress of the NHIS.

Alhaji Ashika who is also the Greater Accra Regional Coordinator of the Zongo caucus of the NDC noted that many Ghanaians were in dire need of the onetime payment and called on the authorities to facilitate the implementation

He called on all Ghanaians to register with the NHIA to save the unnecessary spending at medical centres.
