The Managing Director of the Electricity Company of Ghana, William Hutton-Mensah has discounted claims the company plans to intensify the current load shedding exercise.

According to him, the situation had normalized especially in the business districts of the country where consumption of electricity is very high and therefore does not warrant any intensification.

According to the ECG boss, the load shedding exercise was necessitated by a current increase in the demand for electricity by the populace.

“Electricity demand has risen to 11 percent per annum and this is because customers have acquired more electrical gadgets. Thus the generating capacity of the ECG cannot meet the current demand of the populace”, he explained.

He called for the revitalization of the energy saving campaigns across the country.

According to him, his outfit is currently engaged in talks with government for financial injection and hopes the outcome will be fruitful.
