Amanase, (E/R), April 7, GNA – The Chief Cocoa Farmer at Amanase, Suhum Kraboa Coaltar District, has appealed to the Extension Service of the Cocoa Services Division to help educate cocoa farmers on good practices and methods of maintaining their farms.

Opanin Alexander Asamoah Ampofo, 61, made the appeal when addressing a meeting of farmers and some officials of the Cocoa Services Division at Amanase.

He noted that extending the services of the officials to the area would help them to maintain their farms to increase their yields.

He stated that when the “Extension Service” was placed under the Ministry of Food And Agriculture (MOFA) their farms were completely neglected but expressed the hope that now that it had been repositioned under the Cocoa Services Division they would have officials to advice them.

The Chief Cocoa Farmer said the new extension system involved programmes like snail farming, animal rearing, bee keeping, gari and palm nut processing, noting that these would assist farmers during off-season farming.

Opanin Ampofo has his farms at Amanase Homeso where he has cultivated nine acres of cocoa, two acres oil palm, one acre citrus and engages in animal husbandry.
