GWCL assures Ghanaians of adequate water supply during the Kwahu Easter festivities

Accra, April 2, GNA - Mr Michael Agyeman, Chief Manager of Public Relations at the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL), on Monday said there would be adequate water supply during the Easter festivities in the Kwahu ridge.

Speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Accra, Mr Agyeman said GWCL would employ short term interventions to address the inadequate water supply in the Kwahu District.

Mr. Agyeman said his outfit was aware of insufficient water supply on the Kwahu ridge, hence the initiative to fill water tanks at vantage points, while the people of Kwahu exercised patience for the completion of the 3K project, which would provide a lasting solution to the water problem.

The 3k project aims to address water problems at Kumawu, Kwahu Ridge and Konongo. The project, which entailed the rehabilitation and expansion of water supply systems, was approved by Parliament in 2010.

He said the Kumawu Project would involve the construction of intake pumping stations, new water treatment plant, storage reservoirs, transmission and distribution of mains and booster station.

Under the Kwahu Ridge Project, a new intake with electro-mechanical equipment would be constructed at Asempaneye , while the existing Kotoso water treatment plant would be rehabilitated and expanded.

“Others works include the rehabilitation of the Nkawkaw boreholes system, distribution at Kwahu ridge and NkawKaw, supply of micro hydro power unit and development of boreholes systems and storages at Abene, Suminakese, Akwasiho Hweehwee and Afi No.1”, he added.

Mr Agyeman said his outfit would use internally generated funds to support the development of the borehole project.

He said although the borehole project within Nkawkaw had been completed, GWCL was mobilizing funds to increase the current capacity of water supply in the district.
