GMA urge Ghanaians to register for the coming elections

Ghana Medical Association (GMA) has called on all Ghanaians endeavor to register and participate in the coming Parliamentary and Presidential elections.

This was contained in a press statement issued by the association at the end of its second national executive meeting at Koforidua which was read by the president of the association, Dr Kwabena Opoku-Adusei at a press conference organized by the association on Sunday at Koforidua.

The association expressed its displeasure at erratic nature of the payment of salaries of doctors working in public institutions since the migration of their salaries unto the Single Spine Salary Structure (SSSS) in December 2011.

They said most doctors do not receive their pay statements at the end of the month and often the amount of money paid into their accounts are lower than their predetermined monthly salaries.

The GMA said some doctors have still not received their salary arrears since February 2012 and called on the Controller and Accountant General to take the necessary measures to address the situation.

The association condemned the migration of Medical Superintendents and District Directors of Health Services unto the SSSS by the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC) without reference to the association and the Ghana Medical Service Council as stipulated by the National Labour Commissions ruling on the issue and threatened to file a petition of contempt against the FWSC at the NLC.

The GMA called on the government to put in place a competent management and board for the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital to help solve the many problems facing the hospital to help improve upon the quality of care at the hospital.
