Can a Christian uphold the values of the religion and still succeed in the world of business?

The subject matter has been explored by some astute business leaders in Kumasi at a Christian Business Forum organized by the Grace Baptist Church.

According to Head Pastor of the Church, Rev. Robert Asante, one area of life where people have difficulty keeping to their Christian principles is in business transactions.

He acknowledged doing business God's way is not an easy task but emphasized that the desire to make profit from business should not stand in the way of the desire to please God.

He said it is only a Christian “soaked in the spirit” who can do business without bribery, undercutting, tax evasion and other unwholesome transactions to maximize profits.

“Because man is made up of a spiritual and physical nature, we always seek to please the two natures but because we're living in the flesh, it's always the physical nature that dominates us if we don't allow the spirit of God to lead us”, the Minister noted.

Speakers at the weeklong event include Mr. Kwasi Oppong, Managing Director of Kwasi Oppong Company Limited, Mr. Kofi Akowuah Kyei of MOFCO Furniture, Dr. Ing. Kwame Danso, a Consultant and Rev. Ernest Antwi Adjei as well as Rev. Asante who spoke on the topic “Allowing God to be part of your business”.

“I just want to sound a note of caution to all those who call themselves Christians but are cheats; they don't pay their workers well; they don't care about the goods they sell; they don't pay their taxes and they indulge in all kinds of corrupt practices at the work place, you can't be blessed by the Lord. So whatever successes you are making for the moment, whilst you're engaging in those dubious practices, don't laugh too easily [because] you can't get away for long”, emphasized Rev. Asante.

Participants at the forum have been schooled in best practices to fund, run and succeed in business operations.
