ECOWAS Observation Mission returns to Senegal for run-off presidential election

ABUJA, Nigeria, March 21, 2012/African Press Organization (APO)/ -- The ECOWAS Observation Mission to the 25th March 2012 second round presidential elections in Senegal arrives the country on 20th March 2012.

Former Togolese Prime Minister, His Excellency Koffi Sama, who headed a 150-member ECOWAS mission to the first round presidential elections in Senegal on Sunday, 26th February 2012, is also leading this mission of 100 observers.

They include ECOWAS ambassadors accredited to Nigeria and Senegal, members of the Council of the Wise, West African parliamentarians, legal and electoral experts, including those trained by the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre in Accra, Ghana as well as representatives of electoral commissions of ECOWAS Member States and non-governmental organizations.

The observers will be deployed in all the 14 regions of the country and coordinated from the capital, Dakar.

The new President of the ECOWAS Commission, His Excellency Kadre Desire Ouedraogo, is expected to participate in the mission on Election Day.
