ILLEGAL CHANGE OF POLLING STATION CODES AT AKUSE

March 19, 2012: Kloma Gbi (Voice of the Krobo State), a Krobo youth group has challenged the Electoral Commission (EC) to either accept or deny responsibility for the detected changes in the codes of the polling centers which fall under the seven disputed Electoral Areas at Akuse from the previous Eastern Regional codes to Greater Accra codes ahead of the Supreme Court's verdict on the boundary dispute.

The group has also dared the EC to confirm or deny pasting the registration posters and notifications which are currently all over the Akuse Township.

A letter addressed to the Electoral Commissioner dated March 19, 2012, jointly signed by Messrs Hermann Ablade Adjase-Kodjo and Philip Tetteh Padi, Clerk and Commissioner of Kloma Gbi respectively, said, “It has come to our notice with documentary evidence that the original Eastern Regional codes which begin with the letter “E” assigned to and used by the polling centers in the seven Electoral Area in Akuse for electoral purposes have been replaced with Greater Accra Regional codes starting with the letter “C” even ahead of the Supreme Court's final determination which region Akuse rightly belong, giving indications of the EC's seeming support in helping illegally cede the said areas from the Manya Krobo District (Municipality) in the Eastern Region to the Dangme West District (Now Shai Osudoku) in the Greater Accra Region”

Mr. Padi said “Though we are being forced by these developments into arriving at the conclusion that you are privy to information from certain quarters hence your advanced preparation, we still want to assume your innocence but challenge you to come out and either accept or deny responsibility for the rather swift change in the polling station codes and the widespread circulation and pasting of educational posters/literature on the exercise in and around Akuse”,

He added that “Because of the effect of these developments on the credibility of your outfit which is fast waning before the Krobo communities and right-thinking Ghanaians and observers, we challenging you to come out and set the records straight”.
