The annual international friendly golf between Ghana's Achimota Golf Club and IBB Country Club of Abuja, Nigeria, played to mark the independence day of the two countries has received a tremendous boost.

This year's edition, the tenth since its inception, ended at the Achimota Golf Course last Sunday amidst an unprecedented fanfare to cement the fast growing relationship between the two countries.

For the first time in its history the prize giving day saw the more than 55-member contingent from Abuja, made up of corporate heads of institutions, chiefs and traditionalists from Nigeria, treated to one of Ghana' acclaimed hospitality with a spectacular cultural display,  night of fun, with the National Police Band in attendance.

The captain of the host club Rene Gameli-Kwame said, 'AGC has always viewed this event as a national event. This year is a true testimony to that; we had golfers from all over the country at Achimota to participate in the tournament. The outstanding cultural display, the raising and lowering of national flags gives credence to my point.

'However, to enable Ghana send a strong team for the return leg in Abuja come 1 st October to fly high the flag of Ghana, we need the support of government institutions especially the Tourism and Sports Ministries and corporate Ghana to keep the Ghana - Nigeria fraternity alive. '

He particularly commended four times sponsors ZENITH BANK for keeping faith with Achimota in helping to strengthen the relationship between the two countries through their wonderful support.

On the game itself the visitors forced the homesters to survive an early scare before clawing back on the second day to rout their opponents by a whopping 52 ½ points to the visitor's 31 ½.
