The New Horizon Special School and the Chiropractic and Wellness Centre (CWC) have come together to give children with special needs the opportunity to acquire optimum health and wellness.

Under the initiative, the CWC will be offering complimentary Chiropractic care for pupils of the school.

The school is a non-profit organisation that provides basic education for children and vocational training for more than 101 special needs people.

The mission of CWC is to educate, empower, and equip as many people as possible towards creating optimum health and well being through Chiropractic and a total wellness lifestyle.

New Horizon Special School and the CWC recognise the important role the media plays in promoting awareness towards supporting institutions that serve the special needs of Ghana.

At a ceremony to provide chiropractic care to the students, the Principal of the New Horizon Special School, Mrs Vanessa Adu-Akorsah, said children with special needs needed adjustment and chiropractic care.

The partnership, she said, had been a blessing to the school, adding that “this has been a blessing since we never thought we will get a thing like this”.

She said the chiropractic care would be a continuous one so that the children would feel the effect.

It was expected to be done every quarter.
Mrs Adu-Akorsah said the children felt good during the chiropractic care session.

We believe home and school should work together
The Marketing Manager of CWC, Mr David Tran, said the centre always wanted to offer something to society, thus the partnership with the school.

“This is a beautiful partnership. We believe every single person in the world deserves the opportunity to live a healthy life,” he said.

The New Special School is a purpose-built establishment started by a mother and a handicapped daughter with the support of some parents in January 1972.

It provides day school education for children and vocational training and employment for adults who are intellectually

challenged.
Persons with other disabilities including spastics, cerebral, palsy, visual and hearing impairment are also admitted so long as their disability was learning difficulty.

Chiropractic is a health care profession that focuses on disorders of the nervous system and the musculoskeletal system, and the effects of these disorders on general health.

It is often used to treat neuromusculoskeletal complaints, including but not limited to back pain, neck pain, pain in the joints of the arms or legs and headaches.
