KMA not opposed to the use of classrooms by churches

Kumasi, July 30, GNA - Mr Maxwell Kofi Jumah, Kumasi Metropolitan Chief Executive, has stated that the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) was not opposed to the use of classrooms by churches as places of worship as being wrongly perceived in certain quarters. "As long as such churches use the classrooms at the right time and conduct their services in a peaceful manner, while also contributing to the maintenance of the classrooms, they would continue to enjoy the co-operation of the KMA," he said. Mr Jumah was speaking at the inaugural ceremony of the Kumasi Metropolitan Council of Churches (KMCC) in Kumasi on Tuesday. The KMCC is made up of churches in the Metropolis, who use classrooms as places of worship. The Reverend Charles Appiah Boachie, General Secretary of the Assemblies of God, Ghana inaugurated the seven-member Council, which has the Reverend Isaac Osei Boakye-Yiadom as its Chairman. Mr Jumah, however, urged the churches not to limit themselves solely to the preaching of the gospel but they should also help to broaden the horizon of their members by educating them on national issues and programmes. Rev Boakye-Yiadom said the Association was formed to help the KMA in the maintenance of the school environment. He said as part of their programme, the KMCC would undertake a sustained programme to further enlighten its members on the need to reduce noise levels during their services, while maintaining the peace.
