Former Kumasi Asante Kotoko Chairman, Mr. George Aduse Poku, popularly known as Georgido in soccer circles, has contributed 100 bags of iodated salt to the Kumawu Traditional Council (KTC), towards the observation of the Papa Festival of the people of Kumawu.

It is marked in memory of the celebrated war heroes of the Asante war of independence from the Denkyiras.

This year's festival was observed on the quiet, as a result of the absence of a substantive chief in Kumawu.

Salt distribution, among other food items, including yam and maize to women in the Kumawu Traditional Area, forms part of the observation of the bi-annual Papa Festival, which has not been observed since the demise of the Kumawumanhene, Barima Asumadu Sakyi II, since June 2007.

The donation, estimated to cost GH¢5,000 including logistics and transportation, is the personal contribution of the former chairman of All Blacks F/C, and currently the Director of the Dangbe Salt Limited, who is also the native of Kumawu in the Sekyere Afram Plains district of the Ashanti Region to mark the occasion last week.

Nana Abena Serwaa Amponsah, Queenmother of the Kumawu Traditional area, took delivery of the salt on behalf of the KTC for distribution to12 communities and stool elders in the area.

She commended Georgido for his commitment to the development of the town, having earlier funded a 24-seater aqua privy toilet facility for the community at the cost of GH¢15,000.

The Queenmother urged citizens of the area to emulate the shining example of the former football administrator, to complement developmental efforts of the people in the area.
