A 28 YEAR old man who paraded himself as Isaac Osei, the Member of Parliament for Subin and extorted money from people under the pretext of offering them scholarships has been grabbed by the Nima District Police Command.

Salihu Iliasu was arrested on Monday at Nima around 9:00pm for questioning when he attempted to dupe a senior high school leaver.

Police reports said the suspect charged his victims fees starting from GH¢100 upwards.

Narrating the story to DAILY GUIDE , Nima District Police Commander, DSP Bennieh Aduhene said Mr. Osei made a report to police about some unscrupulous persons who have been using his name to extort money from people in return for scholarships towards his purported 2016 agenda.

A student victim however helped the police to apprehend the suspect.

During interrogation, Iliasu claimed he was contracted by some executives working with the MP to carry out the operation but refused to mention their names.

When the paper contacted Mr. Osei, he said he had not assigned anybody to recruit schorlaship beneficiaries for him.

He said besides his constituents who have benefited from his scholarship scheme, he has never offered such help to anyone else.

'I do not even collect money from these persons before giving them scholarships. These students are in need, how can I collect any money from them?' he asked.

Some devious persons he noted are saying 'I'm giving out scholarships as part of my supposed 2016 agenda.'

'I have no agenda 2016. My focus is on 2012 that is to make sure Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo wins the elections, nothing else,' he added.

The district commander urged individuals who have fallen prey to the suspect's criminal activities to report to the police immediately.

The suspect will be arraigned before court soon.
