Accra, Feb.29, GNA – Eleven Government Departments and Agencies are to commence the e-government project to better deliver improved services to the citizenry.
The beneficiary agencies included the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional integration, Accra Metropolitan Assembly, Food and Drugs Board, Births and Death Registry, National Health Insurance Scheme, National Communication Authority, National Information Technology Agency, Passport Office, Minerals Commission and Registrar Generals Department.
Mr William Tevie, Director General of the National Information Technology Agency (NITA) announced this at the stakeholder consultative meeting on the implementation of the e-payment systems in Accra on Tuesday.
He said the meeting was to brainstorm on issues concerning the online payment for government e-service that are being deployed in the varying stages of the implementation process.
He noted that the e-government project ensures the presence of government information on the web.
The e-services being developed are a Content Management System for managing hosted content on the government portal, a payment gateway to allow portal applications to receive payments from customers, e-forms and a document management application.
He said NITA played a central role in the Government e-service such as the geGov currently being used by the Registrar Generals Department and the Ghana Revenue Authority, which was a Public Private Partnership.
“An e-justice system, e-immigration, e-parliament, e-passport and e-Government Procurement system are envisaged,” he added.
Mr Tevie urged the participants to use the meeting to deliberate and come out with recommendations that would help establish an effective online payment system to benefit all sectors of the economy.
Mrs Veronica Boateng, Director of Application Systems at NITA said the project would also provide a free flow of information between department and agencies, service providers and the public.
