Provide the Nsawam Police with a towing vehicle- Nana Mbea

Nsawam (E/R), Feb. 29, GNA – Daasebre Nana Mbea V, Mponuahene of Okyeman, has appealed to government to provide the Nsawam Police with the necessary logistics to enable them perform their duty.

He said such logistics could include a towing vehicle to help clear the roads of broken down vehicles, help to reduce accidents and also ease traffic jams on the Accra-Nsawam-Kumasi trunk road.

Nana Mbea made the call at the end of the annual West Africa Security Social Activity (WASSA) celebration of the Nsawam District Police personnel on Tuesday, where he commended the Police for their role in maintaining peace in the area.

Superintendent Samuel Buabeng, Nsawam District Police Commander, said the district enjoyed some peace during the past year due to the remarkable decrease in crime levels.

He said in 2011 a total of 2,644 crime cases were recorded in the district as against 3,217 in 2010 and this showed a reduction of 17.8 per cent.

Superintendent Buabeng said in the year under review, assault cases also showed a decrease of 855 in 2010 to 798 in 2011; stealing 734 to 543; fraud 283 to 212; rape five to one and defilement 21 to 17 cases.

He said threats and death cases however increased from 304 in 2010 to 343 in 2011.

Mr Omar Dabor, Akuapem South Municipal Coordinator, on behalf of the Municipal Chief Executive, Mark Dompreh Amoako pledged to provide the Nsawam Police with a computer and its accessories to enhance their duties.

He used the occasion to appeal to the assembly and unit committee members to cooperate with the chiefs in their areas to form watchdog committees to assist the Police in combating crime.

He gave the assurance that the assembly in collaboration with the Police would provide the watchdog committees with the necessary training and logistics to undertake their task.
