
Tarkwa, Feb. 28, GNA-An 18 year-old second-hand cloth dealer, Kwame Amponah, has been sentenced to 4 years imprisonment in hard labour for stealing a cash sum of 6,500.00 cedis.
He pleaded guilty to the charges.
Prosecuting, Police Detective Chief Inspector Oscar Amponsah told the court presided over by Mr. Samuel Obeng that on December 30, 2011, the complainant who is a cocoa purchasing clerk with Produce Buying Company at Abroyire Krobo near Wassa Akropong, traveled to Kumasi leaving behind a cash sum of 4,500.00 Ghana cedis in his bed room.
When the complainant returned from his trip on February 3, 2012, she detected that her window had been damaged and a cash sum of 1,470.00 Ghana cedis had been stolen from the 4,500.00 cedis.
The Prosecutor said after burglary, series of theft took place in her room any time she went out of town.
Inspector Amponsah said from January to February, the accused stole an amount of 5,030.00 cedis in addition to the first amount summing up to 6,500.00 cedis.
In order to apprehend the culprit, the complainant on February 3 pretended to have travelled and hid in her cocoa shed which was nearer to her house with one of her male workers.
Around 4:30 am on February 4, Kwame Amponsah jumped their fence wall on to the compound and attempted to enter her bed room through the damage window and the complainant together with some workers quickly came out and arrested the accused with the help of neighbours and handed him over to the Police.
The accused who admitted the offense in his cautioned statement said that because he stays with the complainant in the same vicinity, he gets to know any time she travels.
He also said he invested the money he stole in his clothing business.
The elder brother of the accused handed over to the Police three bales of second hand cloths, laptop, DVD player, a tiger generator, electric cables, an extension cord and three speakers as the belongings of Kwame Amponsah which is suspected to have been bought with part of the stolen money.
