Nyinahin (Ash), Feb. 28, GNA - A heavy rainstorm accompanied by strong winds swept through Nyinahin, the capital of the Atwima-Mponua District, on Monday evening, leaving in its trail massive destruction to property and misery for the population.

It damaged the roofs of 40 houses including the local Salem and Presbyterian Junior High Schools, uprooted electricity poles and cut power supply to the town and rendered dozens without shelter.

Nana Kusi Asem, the linguist of the town, told the GNA that it was the most powerful storm to have hit the community in two decades and that the victims are being accommodated by friends and relatives.

The headmaster of the Presbyterian JHS, Mr Isaac Osei Gyapong, said they would for now, be holding classes under trees and that this could not have come at a worst time, given the preparations underway for students for their Basic Education Certificate Examination.

He appealed to the district assembly and the national disaster management organization to help fix the roofing and cracked walls of the school.
