The prices of cassava and local rice have gone up significantly in the Takoradi market. Cassava went up 32% (Ghc0.38 to Ghc0.50) in wholesale trading and 100% (Ghc0.50 to Ghc1.00) in retail. Again, in the same market, local rice went up 50% (Ghc1.00 to Ghc1.50) in wholesale trading and 67% (Ghc1.20 to Ghc2.00) in retail trading. For cassava, the market watcher attributed the hike to the scarcity of the crop in the market due to bad harvest while for local rice added cost of transporting the crop from the Volta Region to the market was the key reason given.
