Health Yendi Municipality organises clean-up exercise ahead of Independence Day

Yendi (NR), Feb. 26, GNA - As part of activities to mark the 55th Ghana's Independence Anniversary, a massive clean-up exercise has taken place at Yendi and its suburbs.

Thousands of volunteers made up of school children, students, teachers, assembly and members participated in the exercise on Saturday in areas such as the Yendi Metro Mass Station, Yendi Government Hospital, all entry points to Yendi townships.

Businesses, workshops and stores in Yendi were closed to allow for the exercise.

The Yendi Municipal Chief Executive, Mr. Issah Zakaria, who addressed the participants commended the people for coming out in their numbers to work.

He said the exercise was not going to be a one-day thing so he urged all to keep their surroundings clean to avoid epidemic.

Environmental Officers, he said, should intensify their inspection to ensure that Yendi Municipality was kept clean.

Mr. Zakaria appealed to residents to cooperate with the Yendi Municipal Security Council to maintain law and order in the area.

An Assistant Director of Education Alhaji Mohammed Shamrock thanked the teachers, school children and students of Yendi Senior High School and Dagbong State Senior High/Technical School for the massive turn up.
