Management and board of Korle Bu Teaching Hospital have pointed out that the ongoing rigorous reform agenda is basically to restructure the entire administrative, operational and health care delivery processes as to achieve greater efficiency and enhance the status of the facility as a true specialist's hospital worth its salt.

To achieve these goals, the board and management say they are expecting more attacks ahead but won't be deterred from pursuing the on-going reform agenda.

In a telephone interview with the Al-Hajj last Monday, Prof. Seth Andrews Aryeetey, chairman of the Board of Directors of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital and a Professor of Anatomy at the University of Ghana Medical School said he personally, and some board and management members have for some time now come under attack by detractors whose primary motive is to see the nation's health care delivery system collapse.

In his words “with the launch of this aspect of transformation agenda-transparency-it is not surprising that we are being vilified.

And as more aspects of the reform unfold, we will see more attacks on my person and against members of my team”.

“The people who are trying to do damage to my reputation think they can do that, but I assure you they cannot and they will never succeed. The more we move on with the reform, the more they will attack, plant stories and all that. This won't stop. I am alerting you”.

Prof. Aryeetey said “it won't stop because when one fights corruption, corruption fights back. So in the attempt to fight against corruption they will try to paint you as one of them”.

Prof. Aryeetey said it was up to the media to cross check their facts before publishing rather than publish falsehood from disreputable people whose stock in trade is to speak ill of others based on their incorruptible nature.

He indicated that all the publications about him is completely false adding that, “anybody who knows me knows that I won't stood that low nor allow myself to be corrupted”.

“I am not concerned about that because everybody knows whom I am. But you don't let these things go like that. You have to quickly refute them”.

The Professor expressed resolve not to be distracted by any of the machinations of his detractors saying “absolutely, there will be no turning back in terms of doing the work. They will not divert our attention in terms of focusing on the substance”.

According to him Korle Bu Teaching Hospital and the purpose it is being re-conditioned to serve the people of Ghana and beyond, is more important as compared to the evil machinations of his detractors.

“I don't understand that kind of psychology. It is not just about the administration but also human lives that have to be saved at all cost when the need arises”. The professor said. “Some people don't want that to happen.”

“That is what I take exception to. They are ready to sacrifice lives of their fellow citizens who want to improve health care delivery for the benefit of all.”

He indicated that he believes the Presidency usually carry out due diligence on candidates for sensitive national positions before taking them on, stating however that, “if today I am told that my services to my nation, in my capacity as chairman of Korle-bu board are no more required; I will not stay here an hour longer”.
