Driver in court for assaulting policeman
Nkawie (Ash), Feb. 7, GNA - A 37-year-old driver who refused to stop when flagged down by a policeman at a police check-point in Nkawie, has been granted a GH¢5,000.00 bail by the Nkawie Circuit Court with two sureties to be justified.
Frederick Ntiful, the driver, is also alleged to have angrily driven through a police barrier and screeched to a stop only to assault the policeman.
He was also charged for causing damage to the police barrier at the Antwi Adjei Nkwanta in the Atwima-Mponua District of Ashanti.
He pleaded not guilty to the charges and will re-appear in court on February 20.
Prosecuting, Detective Sergeant Jonas Adjei told the Court presided over by Justice Owusu Afriyie that the accused was driving his personal saloon car with registration number AW 7402-11 from Kumasi to Bibiani.
He said on reaching the police check point at Adiembra, he was signaled to stop but he refused and drove away.
The prosecution said on reaching Antwi-Adjei Nkwanta police barrier, he saw that the barrier had been closed but at a top speed, he drove through the barrier, causing damage to it in the process.
Detective Sergeant Adjei continued that the Adiembra police gave him a hot chase until he was arrested at the Bibiani Police barrier after a scuffle with the police.
