Accra, Jan. 31, GNA – Gideon Fianko, a driver and Kwasi Adjei, a mason, who allegedly conspired to rob an engineer at Adenta village near Accra but luck eluded them appeared before an Accra Circuit Court on Tuesday.

Fianko and Adjei were jointly charged for conspiracy to commit crime whilst Fianko faces an additional charge for being on premises for an unlawful purpose.

Adjei has an additional charge for using narcotic drugs and possession of fire arms without lawful authority.

Fianko pleaded not guilty to being on “premises for unlawful purpose” however, Adjei pleaded guilty to the use of narcotic drugs and possession of fire arms.

The Court presided over by Ms Audrey Kokuvi Tay deferred sentencing Adjei and remanded the accused persons to prison custody to re-appear on February 23.

The Prosecutor, Police Chief Inspector Johnson K. Anim, said the complainant was an engineer living at Adenta village whilst Gideon the accused persons lived in the same vicinity at Owusu Ansah, a suburb of Fafraha near Accra.

He said Fianko was the driver of the complainant's taxi but was relieved of his job about six months ago.

The prosecutor said on January 25, this year, Fianko called the complainant to find out if his wife was at home and was told she had travelled.

Chief Inspector Anim said on January 26, this year at about 10.30 am the accused persons agreed together to steal from the complainant's house, and when they reached the complainant's house, Fianko jumped over the wall into the house whilst Adjei hid behind a piggery nearby to keep watching.

He said Fianko went to the complainant's apartment and attempted breaking the mosquito trap door to gain entrance into the room but luck eluded him as they were spotted by the landlord who was in the house and monitoring the accused persons.

Chief Inspector Anim said the landlord raised the alarm and they took to their heels.

He said neighbours who heard the alarm, joined the chase and arrested them. Adjei was carrying a bag on his back containing a locally manufactured pistol and a knife.

The Prosecutor said Adjei claimed ownership of the items and stated that he collected the pistol from a certain man known as Assembly whilst Fianko claimed ownership of the bag.

He said further search on Adjei revealed a wrapper of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp concealed in his pocket which he claimed ownership.

Chief Inspector Anim said Fianko and Adjei were brought to the Adenta Police Station who handed them over to the Police CID together with the exhibits.

He said the accused persons in their caution statements admitted the offence and were charged accordingly after investigation.
