Akropong-Akuapem (E/R), Jan. 31, GNA - The Akuapem North District Secretariat of the National Disaster Management 0rganization (NADMO) is to establish Disaster Volunteer Clubs (DVCs) in all second cycle schools in the district.
Under the programme, which is to be implemented in the first quarter of the year, NADMO would take measures to ensure that all dormant clubs in the schools are revived and new ones established.
Mr Victor Doku, Akuapem North District Coordinator of NADMO, told the GNA in an interview on Tuesday that, the exercise was to help reduce the occurrence of disasters in second cycle institutions in the district.
Mr Doku expressed optimism that students, who would benefit from the disaster prevention programmes, would take the message home to help reduce disasters in the communities.
He said under the programme, students would be trained in how to offer First Aid when disaster occurred as well as using the training programme to undertake tree planting in schools and the communities to serve as wind breaks.
