Four trapped to death in Bonsa River

Sixmillion (W/R), Jan 12, GNA - Four people in the late hours on Wednesday got trapped to death in the Bonsa River when a canon they were travelling on, capsized in between Tebrebe and Simpa Oboyaayaa Electoral areas.

The deceased include a 35 year-old cocoa purchasing clerk Sephen Anaani, Isaac Adjei, 27; John Baah, 25; and Kofie Kyei, 26.

Briefing the Ghana News Agency at Sixmillion, a cocoa growing area at Tebrebe in the Tarkwa Nsueam Assembly, the chief farmer in the area, Mr. Daniel Nutor said one Atta Sarpong, who was a victim in the incident, rushed to informed him at about 6:30pm that the canon they were using to cross the Bonsa River to the other side to inspect their drying cocoa beans, had capsized.

The chief said he quickly mobilized the youth to rescue the victims but all their efforts proofed futile.

Mr Nutor said the community had been witnessing several accidents on the River and therefore appealed to the government to come to their aid.

Mr. Samuel Cudjoe, Assembly member for Tebrebe Electoral Area also called on Mrs. Christina Cobbinah, Municipal Chief Executive and the government to construct a bridge for the community to help save lives.

He also called on the authorities to construct the road leading to Simpa and Aklika to help in avoiding such accidents as well as transporting of the cocoa they produced in the area.

As at the time of filing this story the Police had not yet visited the scene but the bodies that were retrieved by the community at about 2:30 am were still by the river side.
