Wa, Jan. 5, GNA - Twenty-six School Management Committees (SMCs) from the Wa West District of the Upper West Region have received capacity building training to enable them to scale up their performances to enhance the quality of education in the District.

The training was facilitated by the Centre for the Alleviation of Poverty, Environment and Child Support (CAPECS), a local non- governmental organisation (NGO), as part of the implementation of a “Girl Power Project” in the District.

The participants were taken through topics such as the “SMC concept and management structures”, “building mutual trust between SMCs and community members”, “participatory planning approaches”, “mobilisation of district and community level resources”, “supporting quality education delivery” as well “as monitoring pupils' performance in schools”.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency in Wa on Wednesday, Mr Mustapha Susolow, Executive Director of CAPECS said for schools to function effectively and deliver quality education, all actors including SMCs, Parent Teacher Associations and staff of the Ghana Education Service must be strengthened through capacity building training.

Mr Susolow noted that drawing of community-led school performance improvement plans could lead to quality education delivery in schools.

He said the implementation of the Girl Power Project would address some of the challenges facing educational pursuit in the District.
