Ho, Jan. 03, GNA - Right Reverend Francis A. K. Lodonu, Catholic Bishop of Ho on Monday identified poor parenting as the major cause of social deviance in Ghana.

“Today's parents are only interested in their welfare and not that of the child,” he lamented.

Bishop Lodonu said this when he hosted a total of 120 couples, who got married in the Ho Diocese of the Catholic Church in 2011.

The meeting dubbed, “Holy family feast”, took place at the Bishop's Residence, Assisi Korfe, at Akoefe near Ho.

Bishop Lodonu said some decades ago, parents devoted their time and resources towards the proper upbringing of their children but that is not so now.

“Foreign cultures have taken parents, especially fathers, away from their children. They only concentrate on work and things that will endear them to society and not their children,” he lamented.

Bishop Lodonu said the practice of homosexuality in Ghana was a result of lack of parental love and attention towards their children.

He therefore exhorted married couples in the Catholic Church to be good role models to other couples in the upbringing of children.

“Marriage is a holy sacrament and so is the upbringing of children and we must not play with it,” Bishop Lodonu said.

He advised parents to befriend their children, help them discover their talents and plan their future.
