Winneba, June 30, GNA - The Awutu-Effutu-Senya District Office of the Centre for National Culture (CNC), has initiated a long-term programme to educate the youth in the area on all vital national policies and programmes through drama festivals and other shows.
Mr Oxford Solomon Nyarkoh, District Cultural Director, disclosed this to the Ghana News Agency in an interview at Winneba, at the weekend.
He said areas the programme would cover include, harmful cultural practices, environmental degradation, sanitation, drug abuse, child abuse, child trafficking, HIV/AIDS awareness activities and other acts of discipline which retards national development.
Mr Nyarkoh announced that for a start, his outfit would organise on the coming Friday, July 4, special drama festival for various first cycle schools, particularly for all Junior Secondary Schools in the district at the North Campus of the University College of Education in Winneba.
The event, Mr Nyarkoh noted, would offer the opportunity for potential actors, journalists, historians, social commentators in the district to enhance their talents.
He said as part of the long-term educational programme, the CNC will, on November 14, this year, organise quiz and essay competitions on issues pertaining to culture in Ghana as a whole, on inter-schools bases to improve the knowledge of school children in the area on the various cultures in the country. Mr. Nyarkoh appealed to people in the district, especially district assembly members, opinion leaders, teachers and school children in Winneba Town to endeavour to attend the function to ensure its total success.
