Kumasi, June 30, GNA - The Reverend Ohemeng Boakye of the Ramseyer Presbyterian Church, has advised Ghanaians to avoid unnecessary politicisation of the work of the National Reconciliation Commission (NRC). He noted that the country could not move forward when the people are divided and harbour so much pain, anger and hatred for one another.
The Rev. Boakye was preaching the sermon at the 21st Martyrs Day Memorial Service held at the Ramseyer Presbyterian Church, Adum-Kumasi.
He noted that the deliberate mix-up of truth with half-truths, errors and lies would only lead to the enslavement of the people.
He reminded Ghanaians that forgiveness could come about only when those who have acted wrongly against others accept their mistakes and apologise.
"As a people we should therefore, learn to accept our faults and guilt and stand by the truth at all times no matter the cost".
The Rev. Boakye asked the members of the Bench and the Bar to remain undeterred by the cowardly murder of the three High Court Judges and the retired Military Officer and uphold the truth.
Mr Sampson Kwaku Boafo, Ashanti Regional Minister, said the significance of the day was not just to remember their lost colleagues but to draw inspiration from their martyrdom in order to "rededicate themselves to the cherished goals and principles for which they sacrificed their lives for the people".
He gave the assurance that the government would do everything within its power to ensure that such atrocities were never committed in the country. "The blood shed by those who stood for justice should unite us to stand by the truth and democratic principles we have opted to chart", he added.
