Northern Region PNC Elects New Officers

Delegates of the regional conference of the Northern Regional branch of the People’s National Convention (PNC) elected new executive members in Tamale on Sunday.

The 120 delegates voted for eight candidates who contested for four positions while six candidates were elected unopposed. The executives are expected to handle the affairs of the party in the region for the next four years.

Mr Adam Mahama polled 61 votes as against 59 for Alhassan Osman to emerge as the Regional Vice Chairman. For the Regional Secretary position, Zakaria Razak got 80 votes to beat Mahama Saani who had 40 votes.

Zakaria Yakubu won with 75 votes to beat Salifu Iddrisu who had 45 votes for the position of Regional Youth Organiser.

The Regional Treasurer position went to Ahmed Abdulai who had 66 votes to defeat Madam Emelia Awuni who had 54 votes.

Those elected unopposed were the Regional Chairman, Alhaji Alhassan Zakaria; Regional Organiser, Mr Wumpini Wahab; Regional Education Secretary, Mr Mandangba Mustapha and Regional Women’s Organiser, Baby Madi. The rest are Deputy Regional Secretary, Abdul-Karim Suale and Deputy Regional Organiser, Mr Osman Haruna.

The regional executive was sworn into office by the General Secretary of the Party, Mr Bernard Mornah. He commended the leadership of the party in the region for the peaceful manner in which they conducted the elections.

The Regional Chairman of the Party, Alhaji Alhassan Zakaria, on behalf of his colleagues, thanked the delegates for the confidence reposed in them.

He pledged to ensure that the executive would attended to their needs at anytime.

According to him, they would operate an open-door policy and ensure that members of the party were united to enable it win the 2012 general elections.

The conference was graced by some PNC political bigwigs like Dr Edward Mahama, the Presidential aspirant in the 2008 general elections, Alhaji Ahmed Ramadan, the National Chairman of the party and Mr Bernard Mornah, the party’s General Secretary.

They used the conference as a platform to entreat delegates to re-elect them at the party,s National Delegates Congress scheduled to come off in Sunyani, the Brong Ahafo Regional capital, later in the month.
