Nkoranza (B/A) Nov. 14 (Credit Simon Adu), GNA – This year's National Farmers' Day Anniversary Programme in Nkoranza South Municipality will be held at Ahyiayem, a farming community on the Nkoranza-Ejura highway, on Friday, December 2.
The programme, the 27th since the institution of the national programme, would be under the theme: “Grow more food; Research for Sustainable Agricultural Development”.
Mr. Mc Lawrence Ahiadu, Nkoranza South Municipal Director of Agricultural Services disclosed this at a meeting of the anniversary planning committee for the area at Nkoranza at the weekend.
Mr. Ahiadu said agricultural extension agents had started visiting the communities to identify outstanding farmers for awards.
He said about 50 farmers would receive special awards and 100 others would also receive awards for the exhibition of their farming crops and items.
Mr. Ahiadu said the prizes would be in the form of motorbikes, bicycles, “Wellington Boots”, wax-prints, cutlasses, Knapsack spraying machines, bars of key soap and insecticides.
The agricultural services director urged farmers in the area to organise themselves towards the programme to make it a grand one.
He also called on Assembly Members, traditional authorities and religious leaders to educate the people about the importance of the Farmers Day anniversary and to encourage them to participate fully.
