Ho Poly student crowned “Miss Amu 2011”

A first year student of Ho Polytechnic Miss Gifty Enyonam Akuaku has been adjudged winner in a hotly contested beauty pageant at Amedzofe in the Ho Municipality of the Volta region, as part of activities to mark the celebration of this year's rice festival dubbed “Amufest 2011.

The rice festival is celebrated annually by the chiefs and people of Avatime with the aim of promoting the cultivation of local brown rice while encouraging the youth to venture into the cultivation of the staple.

Winners of “Miss Amu” are handed specific tasks seen as a threat to society, to come out with creative means through which such dangers can be minimized.

Likewise, Miss Gifty Enyonam Akuaku has been tasked to devise means by which teenage pregnancy and premarital sex can be reduced drastically in the area.

Speaking later to Asempa News, Miss Amu 2011 said she is prepared to carry the task given her but said she will count on the support from chiefs, queens and elders in the Avatime Traditional Area in order to succeed.
