06.11.2011 LISTEN

Embattled Madam Frances Asiam has been maintained as the parliamentary candidate for the New Patriotic Party in the Adentan constituency in Accra.

A statement issued by Michael “Jagbele” Ampong, Greater Accra Regional Communications Director, NPP said: “The Greater Accra regional executive committee, under the chairmanship Hon. Ishmael Ashitey, wishes to announce to the general public that Madam Frances Asiam remains the Parliamentary candidate for the NPP in the Adentan Constituency for the 2012 general elections.”

It said the “release intends to put to end speculations in certain quarters of the media and the public that she has been disqualified by the party. We want to put on record that the official process for selecting the party's parliamentary candidate ended on 30th Aril 2011 and Madam Frances was duly elected by the Adentan constituency delegate's conference as their candidate; hence the party still upholds the outcome of the parliamentary primaries.”

"Though we acknowledged that there have been challenges and differences within the constituency,” the statement noted, “but the party has committed itself in finding a lasting solution to all the problems in order to present a united and formidable party come 2012 to wrestle power from the ruling NDC government and to win back the parliamentary seat in Adentan.”
