Three fined for beating watchman
Akim Oda (E/R), Oct 31, GNA – Three people were last Thursday convicted by the Akim Oda Magistrate Court for beating a watchman of the Binney Sawmills at Akim Manso.
Kwaku Jiji, 23, a farmer, Yaw Sakyi, 35, a palm-wine tapper and Paul their colleague, admitted having assaulted the watchman, Mr Kwadwo Amaning.
The Court presided over by Mr Albert Owusu Annor, imposed a fine of GHȼ100.00 on each of the culprits who would serve a 12-month prison term each, if they failed to pay the fine and would also pay an additional GHȼ100.00 each to compensate the victim.
Police Chief Inspector Kwadwo Ahenkorah said on September 4th around 19:30 hours, Jiji, Sakyi, Paul and Baah approached Mr Amaning while at work to collect a dog that Mr Amaning promised them, but they could not collect it.
He said Madam Binney wife of the owner of the Binney Sawmill had declared her dog a nuisance after she claimed it was terrorizing visitors to the sawmill and thus asked Mr Amaning to look for people to help get rid of the dog.
Chief Inspector Ahenkorah said the convicts who had chartered a taxi cab to pick the dog became disappointed when they were refused the chance to carry the dog and demanded GH₵15.00 from the watchman to pay for the fare, but he refused, hence they pounced on him and beat him.
