uniBank Schools SMEs
uniBank Ghana Limited, an indigenous bank, schooled over 50 Small and Medium-scale Enterprises (SMEs) on financial transactions and how to apply financial principles to their operations.
The exercise formed part of the bank's 10th anniversary celebrations which will be climaxed in December, this year.
Over the past decade, uniBank has offered tailor-made products and services to SMEs in the country. It has consistently provided comprehensive solutions to the credit needs of SMEs, played vital role in the growth and expansion of businesses operating in Ghana.
The SMEs were taken through topics such as 'International Trade Business' and 'The Challenges of SMEs in Ghana'.
Making reference to the case studies of two lectures at the University of Cape Coast, Professor Ellis Badu, who chaired the meeting, urged the SMEs to prioritize financial literacy in order to strengthen the accounting and financial principles of the business.
Taking his turn to lecture the SMEs on International Trade Business, Clifford Mettle, General Manager, uniBank said lack of knowledge of business transactions has affected the profit level of most local businesses.
He therefore urged the SMEs to adequately know the nature and type of businesses their partners are involved, adding, 'One should be able to negotiate terms of payment well before undertaking transactions.'
Continuing, he noted that 'uniBank decided to arm customers with financial knowledge to prevent them from making wrong judgment when they want to undertake any payment.'
Reverend Samuel Sakyi-Hyde, Head of SME Banking, for his part said, 'The SME industry was a core aspect of uniBank's target market and we have been committed to responding to its changing needs in a timely, proactive way by placing a premium on meeting our customers' needs.'
uniBank Ghana Limited received the Enterprise Development award at the African Servant Leadership awards ceremony, organized by the Graduate School of Governance and Leadership.
