Unemployed jailed over fire wood dispute

Kumasi, Oct 31, GNA - A circuit court in Kumasi has sentenced a 33-year-old unemployed man to five years imprisonment in hard labour for causing harm.

Abubakar Oldman was accused of inflicting wound on the chest of a watchman at the Kumasi Race Course with a sharp metal, following a dispute over the ownership of some fire wood.

The accused pleaded not guilty to the charge of causing harm.

Police Chief Inspector Archibald Kwasi Fandoh told the court presided over by Justice Emmanuel Amo-Yartey that the incident happened on August 22 at about 0300 hours.

The prosecution said that the complainant, Inusah Bosanga Sumaila, had gathered some wood to set up fire to keep him warm.

Chief Insp Fandoh said Abubakar accused the compliant of stealing the fire wood and attacked Sumalia with a sharp metal, inflicting a cut on his chest.

Some people in the neighbourhood managed to rescue the watchman and arrested and Abubakar and handed him over to the police.
