Two people, including a two- year-old girl, died on the spot and six others were injured when a heavy duty truck loaded with bauxite smashed into a building at Bonsaso in the Western Region.
The deceased are Ama Tweneba, 65, and Angel Essel, the two-year old girl.
Chief Inspector Edward Paddy told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that the accident occurred on Saturday and the driver, fearing for his life, rushed to the Bonsaso Police Station and reported the accident after which he fell unconscious.
He said with the exception of one Madam Susana Koffie whose condition was critical and was admitted to the Effia Nkwanta Hospital, the rest of the injured victims, including the driver, were on admission at the Tarkwa Government Hospital.
Chief Inspector Paddy said the truck, which was travelling from Takoradi to Tarkwa, on reaching Bonsaso, hit a culvert on the Bonsaso bridge, veered off the road and smashed into the building which was situated some few metres from the road, killing the two. -GNA
